X is for XX

Hi hons!! Letter X today! We're so close to the end!!!...okay, *sigh*...so I know this letter is hard because there are hardly any polish brands, names or nail art techniques that start with an X (the rules of the ABC challenge) but I had this one under my sleeve from the very beginning...Cirque's XX. I believe that it stands for twenty as in the roman numbers, because it supposedly contains twenty different types of glitter. Anyhow, this is a real stunner. 

I had read many reviews about how great it was before buying it but I think the best description was "it looks like multi-colored crushed crystals on your nails" or something like that...of course I don't remember where I read that! but yep, that's what it looks like, it sparkles like crazy.

 

Hola muñecas! Ya estamos en la letra X en el reto ABC! Taaaann cerca del final!!!!...bueno, este reto es difícil porque casi no hay marcas, nombres de esmaltes o técnicas de nail art que empiezen con X pero yo desde el principio ya tenía a este esmalte bajo la manga así que nunca me angustié :P. 

Se llama XX y es de la marca neoyorkina independiente Cirque. El nombre, XX creo que hace referencia a lo números romanos, al numero veinte, porque este esmalte dice contener veinte tipos diferentes de Glitter y es divino!

Leí muchas reseñas de este esmalte y no recuerdo donde fue que lo describían como "pedazos de cristales multi color molidos sobre las uñas" y viéndolo en la vida real creo que esa descripción se acerca mucho  la realidad.

 

 

For this look, I did my first ombré mani! You know, the one in which you use different shades of the same color family...and I chose green. And over these lovely colors, I added one layer of XX...pure beauty!

 

En este look hice mi primer manicure ombré! Ya saben, esa técnica en la que se usan varios tonos de una misma familia de color, y elegí el verde. Después solo agregué una capa de XX.

Aaand this is my right hand, I went the other way around with the color order. I liked it a lot, and sorry for the picture spam, it's just that it's sooo beautiful!!

Finally, below it is mattified. It's not very evident, but OMG look at that index finger! I think I loved it the most over Atomic!

 

Y...esta es mi mano derecha, hice lo mismo pero el orden en que coloqué los esmaltes es al revés. Me gustó mucho y disculpen tantas fotos, es solo que es taaaan hermoso!!

Y finalmente acá abajo se los muestro matificado. Casi no se nota, pero miren el dedo índice!! Creo que mi favorito es como se ve sobre Atomic.

C is for Caviar Pearls & Chevron Mani!

Hi dear ladies!! Today's challenge is for the letter C! I had wanted to do a chevron manicure ever since I saw Kimber's post for the 31 day challenge's red nails. I hadn't done it because for me, tape manis are a real P.I.T.A!!! but the results are awesome.

I started with my basecoat Nail Envy by OPI, then applied two coats of Revlon's Rich Raspberry and a coat of Seche Vite.

When that was dry, I placed the tape to form the chevron and then applied a coat of LA Colors Color Craze Lush Lavendar and took off the tape almost right away. After that I didn't feel like using tape again, so I did the blue part by hand. It's George Blueney by Catrice. (LOL! Love the name!). And finally the Seche Vite, again.

The accent nails have caviar pearls instead. These are called Prom Queen by Ciaté and I outlined them with striping tape. I flooded them with Seche Vite on top because I've heard these tend to fall off quite fast so... let's see how long they survive it's my first time using them...I will update that info later. ;)

Hola chicas! El reto de hoy es con la letra "C" de Caviar y Chevrón!. Caviar porque así se les llama a las mini perlitas que tengo en mi dedo anular y chevrón por el símbolo que hice en las uñas, yo no sabía qué significaba esta palabra así que le inserte un link por si acaso ustedes tambien tienen la duda.

Bueno al grano!...Empecé con mi basecoat Nail Envy de OPI, dos capas de Rich Raspberry de Revlon y una capa de Seche Vite para acelerar un poco el proceso. Ya que se secó, puse la cinta adhesiva y una capa de Lush Lavendar de LA Colors Color Craze. Para la parte azul ya me dio flojera volver a poner la cinta así que lo hice a mano. El tono es George Blueney de Catrice (no les encanta el nombre? es como George Clooney!!! jajaja)

Respecto a las perlitas de caviar...pues es de esas cosas que tengo varias y nada más no las había usado!!! Es la primera vez, así que me va a faltar contarles las experiencia. Por esta vez lo único que cambié fue que las inundé en topcoat! En el instructivo no dice que lo hagas pero una amiga me dijo que si no les pones topcoat se caen muy rápido. Peeeero también importa qué topcoat uses, en una mano usé Seche Vite y no tuve problema pero en la otra mano usé Clearly Quick de Sally Hansen Insta-Dri y se corrió el color de las perlitas :(

Christmas time is here!!!...

 

Hello nailistas!! Today I have Christmas string lights-inspired nails for you! I saw this a long, long time ago at The Beauty Department and I thought "well, now's the time to try them on!"

 

If you check out the link above you'll find the tutorial. I changed the colors, and my only advice would be to stick the string to the nail by applying the clear polish to the string, not to the nail (as it shows in the picture below). That will give you a better chance to put the string right where you want it and then you can secure it applying a topcoat.

 

I used a dotting tool to draw the "lights" and I used aaaaaaaall the colors below!! (all by Kleancolor)

And the base is Voodoo (yes, again!) by LA Colors Color Craze.

Honestly it is not hard to do at all, I just think I messed up with the base color, it should have been lighter. Maybe white like on the tutorial for the colors of the "lights" to really pop.

All in all, I'm enjoying my mani, have a good night!

Hola nailistas! Hoy les presento estas uñas inpiradas en las luces navideñas. Vi esta idea hace mucho tiempo en The Beauty Department y pensé que ahora era el momento para intentarlo.

 

Si abren en link de arriba encontrarán el tutorial en inglés. En sí es muy sencillo solo aplicas tu color base (recomiendo que usen uno más claro que el que yo usé para que realmente sobresalgan los colores de las luces), después pegas un hilo en la uña aplicando un poquito de esmalte transparente directamente en el hilo y lo acomodas en la forma que quieras sobre la uña.

Por ultimo, dibujas los foquitos de colores. En la foto de arriba puedes ver los colores que utilicé, todos de Kleancolor y como base use nuevamente...Voodoo de LA Colors Color Craze.

A little Voodoo...

Hi lovely ladies! Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you have a wonderful celebration in this special time of year. Here in Mexico, as in many more countries, is just an ordinary thursday though :) we still have to wait one more month to eat that yummy turkey!... but we can definitely feel the holiday season coming up. Some neighbors and me have already all our Christmas decorations up.

This is my first mani post-challenge and I was a bit mind-blocked about what to do. This time I had to go through all my nail polishes and think of something! That doesn't happen often, I usually have an idea in my mind and maybe swing between colors, but that's it. Finally, I came up with a holographic tape mani.

I used Voodoo by LA Colors Color Craze, a beautiful emerald green as a base and then I did a triangle with Jade Groove by Layla Hologram Effect. I had never used holographic nail polish I was surprised by it's consistency, it seems that it has that it has to be applied in very few streaks and fast otherwise it becomes goopy.

And Voodoo....wow! you know this is super cheap nail polish (LA Colors), but it went on like butter and had a super soft finish. That is something I love about this brand. It may not be the best or most exclusive but it works really well and they have amazing colors. Have you ever tried them?

Hola chicas! Este es mi primer manicure después del reto y esta vez tuve que repasar tooodooos mis esmaltes para ver que se me ocurria hacer. Fue un poco frustrante porque casi siempre ya tengo la idea en mi cabeza y solo tengo que elegir los colores pero esta vez estaba un tanto bloqueada!

Vi este precioso verde esmeralda Voodoo de LA Colors Color Craze y decidi usarlo...esta increíble, además de que a pesar de que estos esmaltes son super baratos no esta nada pero nada mal. Tiene super buena cobertura y un acabado super liso. Nada de pincelazos, no, no, perfecto! Yo los consigo en Todo Moda a $20 pesos... fabuloso no? Eso sí, tienes que andarlos "pescando" porque no siempre tienen todos los colores, asi que cuando veas uno que te guste compralo! quiza a la proxima vez ya no esté.

El esmalte que usé para los triángulos es el tono 05 Jade Groove de la línea Hologram Effect de Layla. Nunca había usado un esmalte holográfico así que no conocía su consistencia. Se debe aplicar rápido y sin pasar muchas veces el pincel porque se hace chicloso...y después de unos segundos...taa-daa! el efecto holografico se revela! Súper!

RETO DE 31 DIAS Día 24: INSPIRADO EN LA MODA

Yes!... I'm starting off this week trying to catch up with the challenge! I did a pause on it because of Halloween and Dead's Day-themed manis :P but I'm back! Hello! :)

 

So today I'm doing Inspired by fashion. Ever since the challenge started I knew what I wanted to do for this topic: Olivia Wilde's dress. This dress is by Oscar de la Renta and I love it!... but as I finished my mani I realized it was a little plain. So I took the hot pink ribbon that Gisele had on a similar dress that I also loved and added it to my nails with striping tape to make it pop!

Hola chicas! al fin me estoy empezando a poner al corriente con el reto! pfff...me atrasé por aquello de los festejos de la semana pasada que me inspiraron otros manicures diferentes a los q tenía q hacer para el reto, pero he vuelto! 

Desde que vi este tema en el reto, supe que quería hacer el vestido de los Golden Globes 2011 de Olivia Wilde! Me parece precioso y facil de adaptar al nail art. Pero al terminar se me hizo algo simple asi que le agregué el listón rosa que lleva el vestido de Gisele para darle un toque de color!

RETO DE 31 DÍAS Día 22: INSPIRADO EN UNA CANCION

Well hello ladies!! Happy Monday! :) For someone who loves music as much as I do, I should have done something amazing, but I had problems translating a song into nail art...probably because I don't really enjoy a lot of literal nail art on my own nails! I like it on other people and it stuns me every time I see it but I just don't feel very comfy wearing it.

Also, I couldn't decide which was my fave song, cause there are so many!!!....So I did this: a couple weeks ago I couldn't get off of my head the song Oh Love by Green Day, so I felt inspired (more by the name of the band than the song itself!) and tried this new nail polish I got called Black/Green from Love & Beauty by Forever21 but I felt a little disappointed that it looks mostly black :( . So I made the tips green with beautiful Voodoo by LA Colors Color Craze to try to make the green glitter stand out a bit more.

 

These uneven tips make me think of punk hair so it goes perfectly well with my song!!! I hope you enjoyed it! ;)

Hooola chicas! Feliz inicio de semana! Hoy el tema era inspirarnos en una canción pero me costo un poco de trabajo. Quizá porque no me siento muy cómoda con el nail art muy literal o gráfico...y tampoco podia elegir una cancion! ....pero en fin.

Hace unas semanas traía pegada la canción Oh Love de Green Day, así que acabe inspirándome en el nombre de la banda Green Day ( Día Verde) y ocupe estos esmaltes que no puedo creer q no había usado!! El primero es Black/Green de Love & Beauty by Forever21 que en la botella se ve divino pero ya en la uña es difícil apreciar los brillos verdes :( así q los hice resaltar con otro verde: Voodoo de LA Colors Color Craze.
A mi me parece q el resultado final se asemeja a unos cabellos punk así q pienso q encaja perfecto con la canción que elegí ;) espero les haya gustado!

RETO DE 31 DIAS Dia 20: Water Marble!!!!!

Hello girls!!! Oh my God! This really was a CHALLENGE for me, I wish I could say I nailed it at the first, second or third try but no....it took me seven tries!!!!! O.o

I apologize for not posting this yesterday but I refused to post something I wasn't proud of, so after not succeeding yesterday, I decided to wait until today to give it one more shot and I'm finally happy with how they turned out!

ESPAÑOL:

Hola chicas!!! Ya estoy al fin de regreso en casita y regrese a enfrentarme con el truculento "water marble". Este reto si que me fue difícil! Ya había intentado hacerlo una vez con mi cuñada y no pudimos, o sea q sabía q me iba a costar trabajo pero no imagine que tanto!!! Lo hice 6 veces antes de que me quedara bien!!! Si, ahora si que: fue horrible, fue horrible!! Jajajaja pero valió la pena, a la séptima lo logre!
Parte de lo que hace difícil esto es que algunos esmaltes no cooperan porque no se expanden bien en el agua, también la flojera de uno que no quiere hacer uña por uña yo quería meter los 5 dedos de una vez y no, no queda bien así.
Yo he visto infinidad de vídeos pero aún así me quedaban dudas, así q les daré algunos tips:
-Primero, te recomiendo q uses un vasito desechable porque quedara todo manchado de esmalte.
- Para los esmaltes que no tienen muy buena cobertura es mejor que eches 2 gotas
- El esmalte debe esparcirse en la superficie, pero no pasa nada si se te va una gota al fondo, simplemente echa otra gota rápidamente.
- Debes usar agua purificada
- Puedes reciclar el agua. O sea: no es necesario q vacíes el vaso cada vez que pintes otra uña. Lo haces, quitas el esmalte sobrante y sobre esa misma agua vuelves a echar las gotitas para la uña siguiente. De hecho no se porque pero va quedando mejor al usar esa agua ;)

Y bueno así me quedo, espero q les guste!

RETO DE 31 DIAS Dia 18: MEDIAS LUNAS / HALF MOONS

Damn it I'm a couple hours late!!! I just missed the day of the challenge AGAIN!!! I'm so sorry you guys! I'm on vacation and its hard to keep up. The only good news is that I'm getting a lot of new nail polish!! So I will return with a lot to do and try!! It's Christmas for me!!!! Today as I was paying for a Halloween bowl and some nail polish the associate put all my nail polish inside the bowl :) I couldn't help to think that that would be better for me than candy!!!!

Ok so stop the bla, bla, bla and on to the challenge!

So... I began this challenge without any motivation, tried some gold and blue combo that was a total fail, and gave up. I chose to do something different instead and applied one of my untried colors: 669 from Maybelline.

I absolutely LOVED this color. The formula is very thin which allows it to dry super fast and yet it has a good coverage. I did two coats. It also has a semi-matte finish which goes really well with the shade. But I wanted it to shine, so I applied a coat of Seche Vite.

Then I also wanted to try Black Out by Kleancolor. A black and silver chunky glitter and I used it for my accent nail. It was only a couple hours later that it occurred to me that I could use this beautiful shade of grey to try to do the half moons again. I did it and I fell in love!

For the half moons I used Lush Lavendar by LA Girl Color Craze.
I liked the end result, and discovered a new pattern to love!
